About Dr. Fred Wilson

The priority of Fred's ministry is the expository teaching of the scripture. To this end, he believes that the message must come from the text itself, and it must be applied to the life needs of people. Additionally, the church must understand its culture and without violating biblical standards of holiness, righteousness, and truth adapt its methods and message to the world it is trying to reach.

Fred Wilson grew up in a Bible-teaching church. At a young age he gave his life to Christ, and in High School committed his life to preaching God's Word. Since graduation from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon the focus of his ministry has been the expository preaching of the Bible.

Dr. Wilson graduated from Biola University with a BA in Clinical Psychology from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon with a Master of Divinity degree in Pastoral Studies, received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Southwestern College in Phoenix, Arizona, and earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Western Seminary.

Fred has pastored four churches since 1972. Faith Baptist Church in Harney County, Oregon was his first ministry until moving to the First Baptist Church in Corvallis, Oregon. Beginning in 1979 Fred was Senior Pastor at Calvary Church in Los Gatos, California until his resignation in 2001. He is currently the Senior Pastor at Trinity Church of Sunnyvale, California. Dr. Wilson has also served as adjunct faculty in Homiletics and in Leadership & Administration at Western Seminary in San Jose, a campus he helped to found.

In 1984 Fred Wilson founded Reaching for Life Ministries serving as its President and radio teacher since that time. Reaching for Life produces a daily half-hour Bible teaching program for release on radio stations.

Dr. Wilson currently serves on the board of Jesus Hope for Romania, an indigenous religious and humanitarian organization, founded and led by Peter Dugulescu, former Parliament minister and leader in the Romanian freedom revolution of 1990. He served for four years as President of Mission to the Americas, a mission focused on the poor and disenfranchised of the Americas. For many years Fred served on the Board of Southwestern College in Phoenix, Arizona. During his tenure as chairman of the board he led the school to regional accreditation.

Fred Wilson's commitment to world evangelization has led him to hold missionary, Bible teaching and evangelistic meetings in over twenty countries of the world. In 1979 he led an effort to establish a 4500 sq ft home for orphans in Oradea, Romania. He also led his church in helping to re-open a church in Riga, Latvia that had been closed for over twenty years under communist domination. In his last year at Calvary Church in Los Gatos, Fred led the Church in raising over $1,250,000 for world-missions.

Fred and Cheryl, his wife and partner in ministry, have been married for 40 years and have three children and seven grandchildren, all serving the Lord.
